Ekbom Syndrome (Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS)) is characterised
by an unpleasant sensation deep in the legs. This is associated
with an irresistible urge to move the legs. The movement leads
to temporary relief from the symptoms which very soon start again.
Suppression of the desire to move the legs is almost impossible.
The Ekbom Support Group was formed in the United Kingdom in
1988 by Mrs. Eileen Gill and now has members in many parts of
the world. The aim of the group is to make the condition more
widely known to the medical profession and the families of
sufferers.
Members receive a bi-annual newsletter.

"Wherefore to some, when being abed they betake themselves
to sleep, presently in the Arms and Legs, leaping and Contractions
of the tendons, and so great a Restlessness and Tossing of their
members ensue, that the diseased are no more able to sleep,
than if they were in a Place of greatest torture""
"The syndrome is so common and causes such suffering that it
should be known to every physician"
