Some people need to move abroad for a variety of reasons. It may be for a job, a relationship, or even simply the weather. However, whatever the reasons, the same questions in regards to moving normally need to be addressed.
These questions are: should I sell my property in the UK, should I buy a property in the new country, and what do I do about money? Of course, there are many more questions and issues to be raised and solved, but these are the main ones.
It is normally recommended that a person rent out their property in the UK and then rent somewhere to live in the destination country in order to see if they at first like the change before making a massive financial commitment to it. In this regard, some people take their furniture with them, and so for example there are many people that specialise in removals to Germany who can help. For others, they prefer a clean break and take just their clothes.
Using the same philosophy, it might be a good idea to retain the original UK bank accounts for a little while. Almost every bank card can be used in ATM machines anywhere in the world, so access to funds is not a major headache.
One last thing that may be worth thinking about, is if a car is needed to travel in the new country. In the UK, we drive on the left, whilst almost everywhere else it is on the right. This means that although using a car to travel around in on the continent from the UK may be a short term fix, in the long term, a car set up for right hand drive would be far better.
