One of the best holidays I have ever had was a couple of years ago in the Masai Mara and I would certainly say that everyone should go on a safari for a vacation with a difference. I remember every detail of the trip as though it was yesterday and I would love to go back if I could.
We arrived by small plane, in fact I was sitting next to the pilot and we landed on what looked like a tiny strip of land, to be greeted by a jeep which took us and our luggage to the camp.
I say camp but it was nothing like I had ever camped in before, with a huge double bed and a proper working shower and toilet.
We spent the days visiting the Masai Mara with another couple in a jeep and it never failed to amaze me how the animals did not notice us at all when we were in the open jeep but would have pounced in a second if we had got out. It allowed us to really see the animals as they should be seen rather than in a zoo.
We spent the night in the camp area eating delicious fresh food with the odd whisky or two, before the wardens walked us back to our tent each evening.
