Believe it or not, Macau recently surpassed Las Vegas to become the highest volume gambling spot on earth. Macau is also known for being the most densely populated place on the planet. According to a recent census, the island is home to over half a million inhabitants living on only 5500 acres. That the puts the population density at nearly one hundred souls per acre. So, if you are planning a trip to Macau City, make sure you book your hotel reservation weeks, even months in advance. As we said, Macau is an extremely busy city, especially on the weekends when thousands of tourists and businessmen from Hong Kong descend on the hotels and casinos. Which is why if you plan on staying at a casino on the island, you had better book ahead. Otherwise you might find yourself searching for a flee bag motel in a foreign country at three in the morning. When travelling to Macau, it is best to take a plane directly to Hong Kong, where you can then catch a one hour ferry to the island.
